Methodological Research Of Implementing The Reader Management Protocol Based On SNMP

The EPC-Network, which based on RFID (Radio-Frequency Identification), is used to collect, track and manage the EPC (Electronic Product Code). Because it can bring large profit to the enterprise, EPC-Network has tracked more and more attention not only from the enterprises but also from the government.In order to standardize the development of EPC-Network, as a global unit, EPCglobal has developed a series of standards and specifications. Among these specifications, RM (Reader Management Protocol) was made to make all kinds of reader devices much consistent and convenience to use. However, RM specification only defincd the stardand interfaces which should be supported by standardized RFID readers. But the manufacter of the readers can choose their own way to implement those interfaces.Even though the RM has defined the stardand interfaces, there are still much more varies of readers which do not meet this interfaces, such as ID barcode readers and even magcard readers. These devies are different from the standard RFID readers not only in the principles of implementation but also in the interfaces. In this respect, we have to consider the compatibility problem carefully for these non-standard readers.In order to solve these problems, this paper has delivered a research and discussion on the detailed information of different format tags supported by different kinds of readers and the possibility of transformation between them., Based on the related experiments, we made a middle platform which used to provide the standard interfaces according to RM, and make isolation of difference physical devices.Besides, considering the popularity of barcode before the emergence of RFID, the latter part of this paper gived a discussion on several feasible applications of barcode in the EPC-Network. It is significant to solve the problems of high cost and low accuracy of RFID.
