Abstract/Summary:
With the rapid development of electronic, computer and communication technology, embedded systems have been widely used in industrial, military, communications and Information home appliances domains. However with the continuous new technologies emerged and new requirements of embedded system proposed, Developers must upgrade the system timely to meet customers needs, to extend the system life cycle, improve system performance and enhance system flexibility. Therefore, the embedded system software updates become an important issue in embedded systems application.Methods, with devices interconnected with Internet concept, on embedded system software update online was proposed in this paper. Compared to traditional methods, the method proposed in the paper could effectively reduce costs of system updates and maintenance. Meanwhile, in the paper, security and reliability problems on the process of embedded system online updates were researched and solved.In this paper, universal BootLoader, TCP/IP protocol and security and reliability problems on embedded system online updates were deeply studied. Based on the embedded TCP/IP Protocol Stack designed and implemented in the paper, an network-enabled BootLoader on embedded systems was also designed and implemented. The BootLoader having a good modular structure and scalability was easily applied to other systems. Among them, the embedded TCP/IP protocol stack could be easily ported to other network-related systems. The network-enabled BootLoader not only could run on Ethernet, but also other access media, such as GPRS, GSM, and CDMA. The minimum image size of the system could be 32K, so it is easily ported to storage-constrained embedded systems and low-level embedded systems.
