Current Status And Inquire Into On Development Of Urban Agriculture

With the development of modern industry and urbanization, the process of integration of urban and rural has speeded up. In the process of the development, the city population grows rapidly, cultivated land has reduced increasingly, and the environment deteriorates further,contradiction on demand and supply of good quality farm products is more obvious. In such case, Urban Agriculture is occurred and has become a unique agriculture in effective using of space of urban and peri-urban. Urban agriculture has experienced half century and more for its development. By relying on city and serving the city, it has provided for city residents with fresh and quality farm products and beautiful eco-environments. To develop urban agriculture is not only a new explore for agriculture, but also a new trend for the development of modern city. Therefore, to make follow up study on urban agriculture has not only the practical significance, but also has the value for application. In the past three years, by reading, collecting and documentation of large number of materials and reference, and by using of principles of systematic engineering and methods for soft science research, this paper has made systematic analysis and summary on the theory and practice of urban agriculture. The paper primarily described the intension of urban agriculture, and its formation and development process, its significance and role, and main types and functions of urban agriculture. It has laid a theoretical basis for understanding and making further studies on urban agriculture. The paper presents the status of developments for the urban agriculture both at home and abroad. In abroad, the urban agriculture has been occurred for more than half century. It has gained successful experience and now is moving forward a new target. At home, urban agriculture comes from peri-urban agriculture. Although it gets off to a late start, the speed of the development is quick and embryonic forms of urban agriculture have been appeared. With quick and health development of socialist modernization, the practice of urban agriculture conducted both at home and abroad has provided good experience and model. Facing the demands and supply with good quality and safe farm products for city residents, the paper described the major industries for the development of urban agriculture, including vegetable crops, flowers, fruits, poetry, aquiculture, processing of products, garden, tourist and relaxation agriculture and the intension of these industries. It has provided the basis for the development of major industries and the research and development of science and technology. The study put forward the supporting role of science and technology in the development of urban agriculture. "Science and technology is the primary productive force ". The development of urban agriculture should rely on scientific innovation and scientific progress, especially on the application of high technology, such as biotechnology, information technology, etc..
