The Statistical Analysis Of International Trade In Service

With the rapid development of service industry throughout the world and the expansion of- international trade in service since 1970s, trade in service has been critical to the development of world economy and trade. It has also become a subject of multilateral trade negotiations. International trade in service is a new field of international competitions and it is one of the key factors, which contribute to the international competitiveness of a nation.The statistics of international trade in service emerges with the appearing and development of trade in service. But the definition and statistical standard of trade in service have not been unified for a long time due to its unique features differently from those of trade in goods as well as the differences of the development and statistic status of trade in service among countries. This makes the international service statistic puzzle the experts in theory and the representatives from WTO member countries. Now in some relevant fields, there are two problems: one is lacking of unified statistical system of trade in service and another is lacking of system collecting and arrangement for existing statistical data. It makes the scientific results of research questionable to some extent and affects the correct decision of various governments and enterprises of relevant countries.This essay systematically expounds the definition and the categories of international trade in service and statistics of international trade in service. It classifies the existing data of international trade in service in detail, compares the data of different countries from all angles, analyzes the development status of international trade in service by means of statistic method, describes vertically the development characteristics and future trend of international trade in service from 1980 to 2002 with tables, and also finds out the new phenomenon and the regularity of international trade in service on the basis of the tables.
