A Study On Operation Model Of Make-to-Order Firms

Along with the rapid development of global economic in recent year, the resources and commodities can be flown all over the world. As buyer's market is greatly expanded to provide plentiful commodities, consumer's demand becomes diversified and individual. So the production mode and corporations under Make-to-Order(MTO) become more and more attention. The aim of this thesis is to find countermeasures for improving the ability of quick responding and management level under MTO type through analyzing the characteristics and the problems of those corporations.Firstly, the thesis introduces the development status of corporations and raises the relevant problems. Beginning from introduction of the challenge of manufacturing industry faced, the operation mode of three types of Make-to-Order(MTO) and Make-to-Stock(MTS) are introduced and compared one by one, then from five aspects the main problems of corporations of MTO type were listed.Then according to these problems, the thesis raises counter-measures from six aspects and deeply introduced the concept and requirements of each method. Finally, the operation mode of three living cases represented three type of MTO, Assemble-to-Order(ATO), Manufacture-to-Order(MTO) and Engineer-to-Order(ETO) were introduced to know how to use these counter-measures to solve the problems.The best solution is to adopt IT technology for merging the advanced manufacturing technology, management method and system engineering to improve key competence and form the operation mode with its own characteristics on the basis of business processing reengineering.
