| Following the evolution in the computer industry, customers, competitions, and changes have become the key sources of competitive advantages. Therefore, with the aim of meeting the customer value, quite a lot of car manufacturers currently intend to move from a built-to-stock(BTS) oriented production of standardized cars towards a customized built-to-order (BTO) production. During the course of this change, BTO has become the byword for achieving success in the highly competitive 21st century marketplace today. This thesis has five chapters. Chapter 1 mainly discusses the conceptions of Experience Economy, Customer-Centered Management, Time-based Competition(TBC), and BTO, then expounds the conception of Quick BTO. In this chapter, the production of 3Daycar, which had been implemented by ICDP, LERC, and EPSRC, is also introduced briefly. Moreover, car and car manufacturer are defined in this chapter. Chapter 2 has two sections: section 1 points out the characters of car market in China, and section 2 shows the present situation of the production system of car manufacturers in china which is explained in four segments: production, information and planning, stock management, and sales and marketing. Chapter 3 expounds the predicaments which car manufacturers are facing nowadays based on chapter 2. The exterior challenges are the superfluous production capability, the inimitable demand, the rational customing, and the precarious market. The inner plights are push production model, longer cycle time, higher inventory, higher product cost, and lower profit. These factors lead to many car manufacturers being close to bankruptcy. So it is necessary to implement some crashing revolution in the strategy of car production. By analyzing the characters of Quick BTO, chapter 4 gives the direction to the revolution of the production strategy. Therefore, it comes to the conclusion that Quick BTO is indispensable to car manufacturers in China. Chapter 5 sums up the main idea of this thesis and point out some questions and expectation on the way of performing Quick BTO in car manufacturing. |
