China has achieved a world wide attention of its dramatic progress in economy as well as in its international trade during the 50-odd-year ever since its establishment. The international trade is playing a vital important role in GDP & economic development to help in forging a sound, prosperous, sustainable economic and social entity. Ever since the theory of foreign trade initiator & advocator Adam Smith, there's a basic acknowledged assumption that parties both gain, no matter they play the role of an exporter or an importer, i.e. international trade provides a win-win solution.Given the fact that China maintains its continuous international trade surplus for quite a long period, and the surplus accumulated 2005 till Aug. added up to 60 billion U.S. dollars, which was a another breakthrough, is it an absolute favorableness as far as a developing country like us China is concerned? The ultimate reason of this paper is to go and objectively find out the real functions of the international trade, especially the import towards the economic development of a developingcountry like China. And the Textile & Apparel Industry - one of Chinese pillar industry, is also chosen to give a further study in the particular import functions in a special industry.While studying the relationship between Chinese import growth & national economic growth, 5 basic hypothesizes were presented. They are respectively as follows.?Import growth accelerates national economic growth;?Import growth accelerates the national economic growth in a relatively long period, given the existence of its function time lag;?Import growth accelerates consumption, one of the constituent part in GDP, in the long run;?Import growth accelerates Investment, one of the constituent part in GDP, in the long run;?Import growth accelerates Net export, one of the constituent part in GDP, in the long run;While studying the relationship between textile industry import growth & textile industry development, 4 aspects were stated. They are respectively as follows.?Import the technically advanced mechanism & facility will improve the industry productivity;?Import refined material, including the fibre(-material) & dyestuff, will improve the quality of the final products;?Import international highly advanced idea & technology will help in increasing the products' value and corporation competitive advantage;(D Import the qualified terminal products will prosperous the consumption market, meet the diversified demand as well as reinforce our sound domestic industry competition and complete our retail trade.Zhang Ming ( International Trade) Supervised by...
