Statistical Researching Of The Performance Efficiency Of Insurance Industry In Our Country

The issue of efficiency is one of the core problems which economics deals with.As far as the efficiency of insurance industry is concerned,it means effective allocation of the resources.Efficiency comprises the abilities of market competing and sustainably developing.Since China has joined the WTO,the competition between the foreign and domestic insurers become more intense.The competitiveness of the insurance industry is the key to its sustainable development,and efficiency is also the centralized embodiment of the competitiveness.However,there is little study about the theory of the insurance industry' s efficiency at home.As a result,researching the efficiency of the insurance industry has certain theoretical and realistic significance. At the base of studying the basic meaning of the efficiency of the insurance industry,this paper compares the three methods which can be used to measue the efficiency. Data envelopment analysis(DEA) is pointed as a basic method to study the the technical efficiency, pure efficiency and scale efficiency of the insurance industry of our country from 1999-2003.According to the different characteristics of the management of life and property insurers,the paper chooses reasonable input and output indexes. After comparing the change of efficiency of the insurance industry from 1999 to 2003,we find the efficiency is advancing. After analyzing the difference among every insurers,we find the efficiency of newly developing stock insurance insurers is higher than state-owned insurers. The change of ecomomic environment and the alterment of the industry framework influenced the efficiency of the insurance industry. These influencing factors are used as the independent variables. The dependent variables are technical efficiency, pure technical efficiency_and scale efficiency by DEA method.Tobit regression model is built to analyze the outer and endogenesis factors which influencing the efficience of the insurance industry. At last, the paper puts forward the major channels to promote the insurance industry efficiency of our country,such as broadening the industry entry restrict and encourging the development of the non-state-owned insurers and so on .
