As a new production mode, mass customization is substituting for the position ofmass production in manufacturing and service industry. While guaranteeing the leveland speed of customization, enterprises have to decrease costs of own products tosurvive in the situation full of competition.Lots of foreign researchers have studied mass customization and costmanagement toward the new mode;nevertheless, domestic counterparts prefer costaccounting rather than cost engineering. This dissertation introduces the forming,characteristics, sorts, key techniques and restricted factors of mass customization,discusses its challenge to cost management, and then proposes the new costmanagement techniques adaptable for new requirement.In the holistic cost management system, cost estimation always plays asignificant role. The dissertation introduces the conception and mode of costestimation, based on which proposes system model as well as procedure. Becausemass customization has gone beyond traditional cost estimation methods;thisdissertation puts forward a new means of cost estimation built on soft computingmethod in different processes of product life cycle such as designing, manufacturingand logistics, which includes simulated annealing algorithm, wavelet neural networkalgorithm, genetic algorithm, Tabu search algorithm and so on.Isolated estimations in different phases only mean a pile of useless computations,which work better through adequate integration. As a consequence, a B/S structuralcost estimation soft system model for mass customization and product life cycle isproposed in the last part of the dissertation.
