Since the Reform and Open Policy, the steel output of our country has reached 223 million tons in 2003, while that was only 31.7 million tons in 1978. The steel output of China increased in an extremely high speed with a growth rate of 18%, 20. 3%, and 21. 9% from 2001 to 2003. In 2004 the steel output of China has reached 270 million tons, and increased 22. 7% compared with that in 2003. Correspondently, China' s Iron Ore imports exceeding Japan rose from 148. 2 million tons in 2003 to 208. 1 million tons in 2004, up incredible 40%, which is three times of that in 2000 China has become the top Iron Ore importer in the world.Because the large quantity of China' s Iron Ore import, which makes the rising of freight rate, the time-charter rate of capsize has hit an all - time high. HUANG SHAN 175, 775 dwt Cosco signs a time charter contract at usd 120, 000 daily. So how to put a proper carrier on a suitable voyage in order to maximize profit becomes a hot topic among dry bulk shipping firms of our country.Based on the analysis of international iron ore shipping market, this paper analyzes China' s Iron Ore Import shipping market, especially the construction of port and China' s Import Iron Ore transportation, and makes a further investigation into them. Then uses BP Neural Network to predict the volume of China' s iron ore imports and makes a quantitative analysis on selection of ship styles of China' s iron ore imports fleet. Finally based on the analysis of China' s iron ore imports shipping market, this paper gives some practical measures that China' s shipping firms should take for their reference.
