Study On The Development Of Urban System In Northwest China

In the study of regional development, urban system is an important issue. Nowadays, there are quite a lot of study of urban system both in theory and practice home and abroad. The dissertation reviews the history of the urban system in northwest China, expounds the advantaged factors and disadvantaged factors in the process of the urban system development, analyzes the present situation of the urban system, based on bountiful relevant data, various quantities and quantitative methods, then predicts the future of the urbanization level in northwest China, makes relevance suggestions on how to form and perfect the urban system in this district.The follows are main conclusions and discussions:(1) By studying on and summing up the research methods about the urban system, we put forward the academic viewpoint based on the point and axle development theory that is metropolitan region/ urban group and economic area in northwest China.(2) The dissertation reviews the history of the urban system development in northwest China, assesses the advantaged factors and disadvantaged factors of the development, analyzes the grade scale structure, using city primacy index, 4-city index, and 11-city index, and analyzes the functional structure and spatial structure, using some qualitative methods.(3) The future of the urbanization level has been predicted by using linear regression analysis. The writer puts forward the urban system development strategy in northwest China is paying attention to the development of five capital metropolitan regions, which act as a guide in the development of the regional urban system, accelerating the development of middling cities and towns, and building up the network distributed of the urban system to form and develop the system with a reasonable structure.(4) It have been perfect that the grade scale structure, functional structure and spatial structure. The material contents are to form the 7-grade urban system composed of regional center cities, regional sub-center cities, district center cities, district sub-center cities, county - level cities and main counties, general counties, general towns, to perfect the functional structure by superiority industries,and to develop the dissymmetrical "X" development axes shaped by the western Longhai-Lanxin axe and Baolan-Lanqing axe, and develop 3 urban economic areas (Guanzhong, Lan-Xi-Yin, and north piedmont of Tianshan Mountain) and 15 urban conglomerations.(5) Finally, suggestions on the development of urban system in northwest China in future have been made: emphasizing the intensive development of big cities;adopting different urbanization strategies for different areas based on the different industrialisation periods;improving the urban environment to develop tourist cities;regulating the unsuited exploitation districts in preference to protect the eco-environment;exploiting water resource reasonably;perfecting the industrial structure;establishing corresponding governance and safeguard measures by the 5 provinces and municipalities.
