Enlightment Of International Metropolitan Regions’ Transportation Svstem For Shanghai Metropolitan Region

Metropolitan region refers to the area which is beyond administrative boundaries and form the city landscape as a whole. Or it also refers to the city and the metropolitan area which are closely related to the functions. With the coming of the era of globalization, metropolitan region has become a new spatial unit in the development of modern city, the competition and cooperation between the metropolitan regions will have great influence on the national and world economic and political pattern in the21Century. At present, international metropolitan regions like Tokyo and Paris are relatively mature, while in China, metropolitan regions represented by Shanghai are also rapidly rise in. In order to promote the development of China’s metropolitan regions scientifically and reasonably, it is necessary for us to study and learn from the successful experience of the international metropolitan regions, and to explore the road of metropolitan region development in line with China’s national conditions.Analysis from the angle of city planning, metropolitan region’s rapid and sustainable development is largely dependent on the regional transportation system. While Mr. Gottman mentions of the five conditions of metropolitan region formation, he says,"the formation of metropolitan region should have convenient traffic corridor to connect the core cities, so that there would be no interval between those urban areas", thus, we can find the essential effect of the transportation system on the metropolitan region’s formation and development. It can be said that comprehensive transportation system is a prerequisite for the development of metropolitan region, and the rail transit system is an important factor affecting the region’s radiation and charm.This paper choose Shanghai metropolitan region, which is the most mature, most influential region in China as the research object, and select Tokyo, Paris, Chicago and London metropolitan regions which have excellent transportation system as study objects. Through the full range analysis of the four study objects, this paper put forward related suggestions on the transportation system optimization and improvement to Shanghai metropolitan region form four aspects:the traffic mode choice, the construction of transportation hub, improvement of transport facilities and services, and the trip chain architecture. Thus to promote the further development of Shanghai metropolitan region, to build a valuable transportation system, and hope to contribute to enhance the comprehensive competitiveness of Shanghai metropolitan region.
