Technology Advancement And Sustainable Development In Coal Coking Industry In Shanxi

Coke production has been the corner-stone industry in Shanxi for many years. Meanwhile coke is the only product for which Shanxi is noteworthy in the international market, and therefore plays an essential role in the economic development in Shanxi and in the stability of iron and steel industry in China and even in the world. In the 21^st century, coking industry is globally regarded as a sector of high pollution and serves as the major source of environmental degradation in Shanxi. Actually it has developed from the major driving force to the major impeditive one for the economic development in the province. This thesis reviewed the technology advancement and historical evolution, and then analyzed the industry's environment in terms of ecology, viability, market and policy, in an attempt to search for an environmentally harmonious operation model.This thesis includes six parts:The first part overviewed the development history from ancient manualcoking to the large-scale machinery operation in Shanxi.The second part described the coking technology evolution from "nativemethod" to machinery process in large enterprises and its historicalbackground.The third part mainly introduced the technical equipment and market environment of coking industry in Shanxi, and, through the analysis on large amount of data and empirical tests, raised the major problems in the mainstream coking industrial sector in the province.The fourth part analyzed the changes in domestic and international market, proved the still-going leading position of Shanxi in this market, and pointed out that the coking enterprises should actively seize market opportunity.The fifth part proposed the concrete measures and suggestions, based on the analyses in the previous chapters, on the sustainable development of coking industry in Shanxi.The sixth part is the conclusion of this thesis.
