The histories of developed countries display that the development of heavy industry is an unable to overstepped stage in industrialization. In the near future, heavy industry will be the main power to drive Chinese economy. Today, industrialization as well as urbanization is accelerated in China. The quick development of heavy industry will not only be the important character of Chinese industrialization, but also be the main driver of Chinese urbanization. It will spur the population and capital in countryside to flow into cities, advance the flourish of urban economy. As the same time, the acceleration of urbanization and the huge demand of city's construction will push Chinese heavy industry to increase sustainable. Because cities, especial the huge cities, will bring obvious centralization effection and scale effection. And the heavy industry can't be apart from the two kinds of effection which bringed by urbanization.In the thesis, the spatial location of chemical industry, and its impacts on Chinese urbanization are studied. The whole thesis consists of five chapters. The first chapter tells the meaning and the background of this study. The second chapter makes a brief introduction to the chemical industry, then detailed analyses the speciality in the chemical manufacture and the factors which will affect the chemical industry location. The third chapter indicates that China has got into the age of heavy industry through analyzing the transformation of the industry structure.The fourth and fifth chapters are the emphases of this thesis. The fourth chapter analyses the spatial location characters of chemical industry in China, and discusses its location trend in the near future. According to the impacts which chemical industry will bring to urbanization, to the spatial location of cities and to the city-cluster, the fifth chapter discusses the relationship between the chemical industy and urbanization.
