On China's Rural Economic Cooperatives As Compared With International Experiences

Through modern productive means and management methods, rural economic cooperative organizes farmers and provides an efficient way, which improves China's agricultural international competitiveness and farmers'living standards while promoting the building of a new socialist countryside. Given this, I choose it as the topic of my paper. In this paper, I discuss the development of rural economic cooperative in China in terms of related theory, background and policies. The paper contains three chapters that are as follows.Chapter 1 discusses fundamental theories on cooperative economy. Cooperative economy has a history of over 100 years and has some fundamental natures. First, cooperative economy, as a type of joint ownership economy, is based on joint ownership. Second, cooperative economy is a type of mixed economy. Third, in cooperative economy the relationship between its members is equal and mutual-help. Forth, in cooperative economy its internal interest division is mainly in proportion to the members'transactions with the cooperative, instead of labor and capital contribution. Cooperative economy is, in nature, different from collective economy and shareholding economy in many aspects. International Cooperative Alliance has given us a clear definition of cooperative and its related principles. Rural cooperative is the cooperative in the agricultural field with farmers as its main members. It is the most popular type of cooperative. According to its main functions, rural cooperatives can be classified into two kinds: rural economic cooperative and rural political cooperative. Rural economic cooperative plays a crucial role in the agricultural field and it has many advantages.Chapter 2 describes the general picture of rural economic cooperative in China. First, rural economic cooperative should be studied after China's entry into the WTO. Rural economic cooperative plays a significant role in promoting China's agricultural product exports. From the comparison between China and France as well as America, it can be seen that China's agricultural product export is much lower than France and America.
