The analysis and estimation of the potential output is a focus of macroeconomic research in recent years. It is very meaningful of the analysis of the development of long-time economy. It has very important significance in the stabilization of short-time economy. Specially as is pointed, the output gap (the difference of actual output and potential output) has already become a very important a signal of the policy. Various presentation with a great deal of economies indicate: When the output gap arises, the pressure of the inflation will increase, when the output gap drops, the inflation of pressure will descend. Apparently, the output gap is very important when the policymaker make policy. There is a close relation between the measure of the potential output and the making of the policy. But the potential output and output gap of an economy is not to be observed directly, this caused interest of the economists to estimate potential output and output gap. So a great deal of the estimation techniques of the output gap and output gap emerge. In this paper, on the foundation of looking back related theories and evidence researched, the estimation techniques of the output gap of China were explored, and various methods are assessed. These techniques fall into two categories. We compare the output gap estimates using frequency domain techniques and time domain techniques. This analysis suggests that the various output gap measures share some important similarities. In particular, all of the output gaps'co-move'and, more often than not, are in agreement about the state of the cycle. The uncertainty is an inherent feature of output gap estimates. The policy implications of this uncertainty are investigated. Despite uncertainties, the output gap estimates are found to be significant determinants of inflationary pressures. It has a valuable role to play.
