Hubao Basin is one of Hetao Plain’s two major groundwater flow system, it includes provincial capital Hohhot City and an important industrial city of Baotou City, it is the most political, economic and cultura developed regions of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. With the rapid economic development in the region, demand for water resources are becoming increasingly strong. According to authorities predicted that by 2010 Hetao Plain’s water shortage amounted to 18×10~8m~3, dryland are mainly in Houtao Basin; but when the year 2030, water shortage will reach to 80×10~8m~3, water shortage throughout all region of Hetao Plain . Therefore, urgent need to further identify the hydrogeological conditions of Hubao Basin and to assessment of Hubao Basin’s resources.In this dissertation, the groundwater numerical modeling is applied to evaluating groundwater resources in Hubao Basin, On foundation of the detailed analysis of geology and hydrogeology conditions in this study area , according to the data of 2007 and 2008, Hubao Basin’s hydrogeologic double layers structural model、hydrogeologic conceptual model and mathematical model , which is set up using groundwater modeling system GMS. Based on analyzing budget items, the regional data of sources and sinks are assigned by combining GIS, Access database and GMS exterior files, to solve the establishment of quasi-three-dimensional groundwater flow equationThe results of model indicates that during simulation periods 2007-2008 in the Hubao Basin groundwater system, groundwater recharge is 29.4330×10~8m~3, total discharge is 27.8299×10~8m~3. And then application model for analysis and evaluation of annual average total groundwater recharge and exploitable resources of groundwater., On the condition of the present situation of exploitation , groundwater recharge resource is 13.246×10~8m~3/a , due to the research stage , based on the natural resource,the exploitable quantity of groundwater is 9.3423×10~8m~3/a by 70% ensuring coefficient of the natural resource.
