In gas field exploration, it is very important to choose the suitable modeling strategy and method. Considering the feature of the reservoir and the applicability of the model, the right method was chosen. Recently, stochastic modeling became the main direction of reservoir modeling. The paper is based on geologic modeling in Y and Q gas field Altun-Asell block where there are few wells in the block. The underground carbonate reservoir is hard to describe due to their anisotropy. Meanwhile there are many faults and many pressure system, so the gas-water contact is hard to ascertain. To solve the above problems, appropriate algorithm and constraint condition was chosen to improve gas field exploration and development. In the paper the software Petrel was used in model building. First, the data was analyzed to get the geology information. The fault model and layer model of the target reservoir were built. Second, property parameters vacuated and analyzed with variogram, suitable geologic statistic parameters selected, with constraint of reservoir thickness, property model could be built up with sequential Gauss simulation. After that gas-water contact was calculated with Kriging interpolation and different correlation factors were used in different layers. Then the gas initial in-place(GIIP) was calculated with the volume method. The model is close to the real geology circumstance. It demonstrates that the former structure interpretation is right and improves gas field exploration and development.
