China’s coal resource is abundant and widely distributed geographical. Coalgenerates in different geological environments, resulting in the coal containednuclides and nuclide contents are various greatly. Because in practical production coalquality has different technical requirements, it is necessary to coal quality analysis.Acquiring the characteristics of coal quality ca n achieve more rational and effectiveusing for coal.Coal producers or consumers of coal urgently need for a rapid, accurate onlinecoal quality testing technology. The traditional online testing methods include X-rayfluorescence analysis and infrared analysis technique. They have serious technicallimitations on representative of test data, integrity of test data as well as reliability ofdata analysis in industrial applications. Careful study results have shown that the onlyviable option to fully meet the online analysis of coal quality is Prompt GammaNeutron Activation Analysis technique (PGNAA). PGNAA technique havecharacteristics of high sensitivity, full-elemental analysis and non-destructive. It isapplied to coal industry.Currently, when researchers study the coal quality on-line analysis, they useisotopic neutron source, low-energy neutron D-D neutron tube (2.8MeV), D-T higherenergy neutron tube. D-T neutron tube is analyzed after moderating the fast neutronsby neutron slowed body. But in this way, it’s hard to analyze the coal which capturecross section is small, such as carbon and oxygen. Therefore, this paper analyzes thenuclide by inelastic scattering and capture reaction of neutron and irradiating thesample of the coal by pulsed neutron source of14MeV. To simulate fast and effectivethe physique process of the analysis of coal quality, all of the experiments have beendone via MCNP5.In this paper, firstly, the model of14MeV coal quality analysis is simplified byMCNP5. Simplified Model include that coal is designed to larger radius sphericalshell, γ-ray of neutron activation is on the inside of the spherical shell to collection, time controlling of activation γ spectrum can collect Inelastic γ spectrum in pulseduration and capture γ spectrum in pulse intermittent. Secondly, the inelastic γspectrum and capture γ spectrum for different thickness of coal are simulated.Characteristic peak counts in spectrum are analyzed. The results show that optimumthickness of inelastic γ spectrum and capture γ spectrum to collection is25cm and35cm. After setting the moderator, the thickness optimization doesn’t affect. Using theoptimization model, the standard spectrum of the single element is acquired bysimulating trace doping method. The relationship of between element contents and thecharacteristic peak count rates is analyzed.
