Water is the source of life, and the basis of survival and civilization. Chinais lack of water resources for its large population. And the uneven distribution ofwater resources in the nation is a real problem. Therefore water saving and watermanagement is a difficult and risky task. In recent years, the industrialization,urbanization progresses of China, coupled with the more profound globalclimate changes, bring a severe test to sustainable development of waterresources, which restrict the sustainable development of society and economy.Serious water problems currently existing in our country are due to irrationalexploitation of water resources and a serious shortage of water protectionawareness. Groundwater resources are part of the water resources, which is alsoan important water source in Taiyuan, so protection and rational use ofgroundwater resources is very crucial.Lancun Springs is one of the provincial key karst springs, with an area of2500square kilometers, including four pore water sources which are Lancun,Zaogou, Sanji and XiZhang. Lancun spring area is the provincial water source ofcentralized scale. Over the years, these sources have been the main sources ofwater supply in Taiyuan city. As the major water sources are over exploited,there is a significant decline in the regional groundwater level. Lancun springsdrying up and a series of unhappy consequences happened. After the water ofthe Yellow River flew in in2004, the water sources finally get a chance torecuperate; groundwater extraction has been controlled and gradually reduces.With the increase of the Yellow River water flowing in, pressure groundwater mining and some proactive measures will accelerate the speed of the water tableto rise and Lancun spring reflow will become possible.Based on the full collection of existing exploration and experimental dataof the spring area, the analysis of the current situation of groundwaterexploitation is conducted, which reveals the distribution of karst groundwaterdrawdown funnel and development law. Fuzzy comprehensive evaluationmethod is applied for groundwater quality in the spring area to make anevaluation. Correlation analysis is used to predict the trends of water quality.Based on hydrogeological conditions of the spring area, a numerical simulationmodel of karst water of Lancun spring area is established to evaluate karstgroundwater resources and predict Lancun, Zaogou and Sanji groundwater leveldynamic trends. Based on the numerical model, karst groundwater recoverycalculation is conducted, which demonstrates that after the project the YellowRiver, the possible ways of the regulation of karst groundwater. Finally, the karstgroundwater exploitation programs and integrated sustainable managementmeasures are put forward which provides a scientific basis for the exploitation ofkarst groundwater.
