Wind profiler radar is the next generation of radio remote wind sensing system. It uses the clear skies atmosphere as detect objects, mainly to detect the turbulence backscattered signals which meet half the radar wavelength in the free atmosphere. And it is the most direct sources to get the high-altitude wind data expect the radiosonde. By 2020, China plans to build a reasonable nationwide wind profiler radar network, to achieve consecutive multi-frequency observations of the high-altitude winds, make up temporal and spatial resolution of conventional upper-air observations, and provide support for the numerical prediction model initial field improvements. Therefore, efficiently use of each wind profiler radar site detection data and products is particularly important.This paper focuses on the power spectrum data of the boundary layer wind profiler radars. On the basis of introduction of power spectrum principles, giving its research results in the application area from many aspects. Based on the acquired Shanghai boundary layer wind profiler radar network detect data and relevant meteorological background information, the analysis conclusions as follows:(1) The result of the statistical analysis of the acquired boundary layer wind profiler radar data shows that the boundary layer wind profiler radar has a low failure rate and high data acquisition rates;(2) The typical reference charts of wind profiler radar power spectrum under different conditions are given in the article, including:no precipitation, precipitation, snow, speed folding, ground clutter interference, the external signal interference and etc.(3) The study found that the power spectrum can in addition to extract data products for the wind, but also could provide much other potential real-time weather information. Including:find and determine the start time of precipitation; online quickly estimate the horizontal wind direction; discrimination and determine precipitation height and freezing layer height range; detection the refined precipitation period; diagnostic wind profiler radar system hardware and software failures; evaluation of the wind profiler radar systems advantages and disadvantages of the software and hardware performance.(4) Combination with a case of radar wind profiler radar error wind data under the precipitation period, analysis and inversion the error data based on radial power spectrum data, the result shows that the power spectrum data can be used to analyze and judge the deviation of the radar software quality control algorithm, and fix the errors.The articles conclusions show that understanding the wind profiler radar power spectrum is very meaningful to improve the analysis and application level of a single station wind profiler radar site, and strengthen the capacity of the weather monitoring and warning.
