A Preliminary Study On The Methodology Of Experimental Philosophy

Experimental philosophy emphasizes to combine empirical research with the concept analysis of traditional philosophy on the methodology, which adopting the method from social science and cognitive science to explore the psychological processes and cognitive mechanisms during folk making intuition judgment, and provide the empirical data to compare with philosopher’s intuition. Experimental philosophy as a kind of new method for philosophy research contains the new era spirit and features, and rich methodological meaning. As an important research field of Experimental Philosophy, the methodology of Experimental Philosophy is a multifaceted complicated issue. The focus of this paper is not to do overall description and analysis on experimental philosophy methodology system, the purpose of this study is to introduce the specific research methods of experimental philosophy. And show the methodological characteristics and significance of it through some research instances. This paper presents the overview of experimental philosophy methodology revolution.This thesis consists of three parts, including experimental philosophy and its method, the methodological characteristics of experimental philosophy, the methodological significance of experimental philosophy. The first chapter summarizes experimental philosophy and its method from three aspects; it mainly introduces the rise, the diversity and the boundary of experimental philosophy. Then it focuses on the specific research methods of experimental philosophy so that we can have a clear understanding on experimental philosophy. The second chapter introduces three methodological characteristics of experimental philosophy, including the empirical feature, the positive feature and interdisciplinary feature, and analyzes and illustrates these features through some specific research instance. The third chapter is the last part of the article, through reflecting and examining experimental philosophy, explores the methodological significance of experimental philosophy, including testing the traditional philosophical theories, seeking new philosophical interpretation, promoting the transformation of philosophical thinking.
