The Research Of New Materials Of Lufengosaurus Huenei

Lufengosaurus Fauna in early Jurassic plays an important role in the research of early evolution of dinosaurs. The thesis described an almost complete prosauropods skeleton which is found in the lower Lufeng formation of early Jurassic in Lufeng ba-sin, Yunnan province. The skeleton includes 9 cervical vertebrae,11 dorsal vertebrae, 3 sacral vertebrae,29 caudal vertebrae and complete pelvic girdle and hind legs. It has the same characteristics with Lufengosaurus huenei which is found in the same layer and area:medium-size, about 4 meters long, cervical vertebrae and dorsal vertebrae are comparatively long, hind legs are long and strong, the phalangeal formula 1-2-3-4-1, etc. The specimen is different from other prosauropods in Lufeng basin, so it should be classified as Lufengosaurus huenei. The specimen we found this time is another almost compelet Lufengosaurus huenei skeleton, enriched the fossil material of Lufengosaurus huenei, verficated the identification features of this species,and also proved the herbivory and asymmetry of limbs of Lufengosaurus huenei, so it has a very important biological significance to the research of early prosauropods of Lufeng basin.Near the location of Lufengosaurus huenei, there are some scattered dinosaur fossils. After a preliminary study, it is of Dilophosaurus sinensis. These two dinosaurs restored the death scene about 200 million years ago, showing a rare phenomenon that phytophagous and predacious dinosaurs are buried in the same place. Futher more, it may provide the fossil evidence to the hypothesis of "Dilophosaurus ate prosauro-pods’corpse for food".
