The 3D terrestrial laser scanning technology is a revolutionary technological achievements following the GPS in recent years. It’s widely used in many fields because of its advantages of non-contact, high efficiency, high precision, high degree of automation, including topographic survey, digital factory, reverse engineering, protection and restoration of cultural relics, geological hazard deformation monitoring and crime scene accident investigation, etc. The 3D terrestrial laser scanning technology can obtain the 3D coordinates of the entity surface is called the point cloud data, the point cloud data can be used to build the 3D model of the object.In order to get the 3D models of object, we need to process the original point cloud data. This article introduce the 3D laser scanning system in detail, and studies the whole process of point cloud data, including the point cloud registration phase, point cloud filtering stage and point cloud modeling stage. The purpose of point cloud registration is to unify the point cloud data in different coordinate system to a coordinate system, we write two algorithms by using the matlab program. These two methods of the initial registration and accurate registration are carried out to the point cloud and achieve the desired results. The purpose of point cloud filtering is to filter out the noise data in the point cloud, we write B-spline wavelet filtering method by using matlab program. After the registration point cloud for the third order filter processing, and compared with the filtering effect of Geomagic studio. The experiment shows that B-spline wavelet filtering method has good effect, and be able to keep the original characteristics better. In the point cloud modeling stage, the Geomagic Studio software is used to reconstruct the three-dimensional model of the experimental objects, and the quality evaluation of the model is carried out, and obtain the ecpected results.
