Newton’s rings is a kind of typical phenomenon of isopach interference and possess wide application field, Newton ring image can be used to optical measurement or optical inspection, such as measuring radius of curvature of lens surface or refractive index of liquid, or inspecting surface convex concave of optical device, surface quality of optical element, etc.But the existence of the extrusion stress leading to deformation of Newton ring image will affect measurement accuracy in the use of Newton’s rings for actual measurement or testing, as the surface of two pieces of optical glass generating Newton ring image is not ideal tangent but rather squeeze each other.Whit the breakthrough point of stress which caused deformation of Newton ring, this subject taking advantage of Newton ring image under the action of stress put forward an nondestructive optical vitreous stress measurement method based on the optical interference method, furthermore this subject possess originality in the application fields of Newton’s rings.Under the action of stress, the stress deformation on Newton’s rings leading to the change of interference pattern will come into being, cause a change of the interference pattern, therefore this tiny changes can be used of to measure optical vitreous stress. This subject has theoretically deduced analytic formula between curvature radius of Newton’s rings and stress based on plate theory, designed a pressure applying device which can be reasonably installed on the Newton’s ring device, experimentally studied the transformation relation between the applied stress and the interference pattern by the pressure applying device of Newton’s rings, eventually proved the feasibility of the stress measurement method based on interference technique with newton ’ s ring through theoretical analysis and experimental comparison.
