SnO2 doped P2O5-RO phosphate scintillating glasses were prepared successfully in the present work. Optical properties and radiation resistance of those glasses and their dependence on glass compositions were studied via density measurement, differential thetrmal analysis(DTA), X-ray diffraction(XRD), transmission spectra, luminescence spectra (including excitation and emission spectra), and so on. Results show that density of the glasses increased with increasing of SnO2 concent. XRD results show that the glass crystallied at the high SnO2 content. Transimmision spectra show that glasses own a good transmission at the region of 300nm to 800nm, while the UV cut-off position located in 260nm. The transmission of glasses decreased with the increasing of SnO2 concent while the UV cut-off position dose not changed. Those glasses show a broad emission peak from 350nm to 550nm with a maximum around 420nm and a shoulder at 390nm with an excitation wavelength of 267nm. Meanwhile, the luminescence intensity of glasses increased with the variety of SrO, BaO and CaO. After high doseγ-ray irradiation, the transmission of glasses with the composition of 75P2O5-25SrO-xSnO2 decreased with the increasing of the irradiation dose, which is due to the absorption of the color centre in the visiable region. At the same time, high doseγ-ray irradiation decreased the light emissions of 75P2O5-25SrO-xSnO2...
