The FE model of a large-sized ammonia converter with high pressure in a large corporation has been established and the stress distributions have been obtained, which indicates that internal pressure plays much more important role than the gravitational force in this distribution. The strength evaluations have been made according to the criteria JB4732-95with respect to such essential parts as skirt support, joint of nozzle and cylinder shell, joint of nozzle and spherical head, showing that there is comparatively large safety margin and the optimal design could be applied.Numerical simulation of the double-cone sealing under pretension and operation based on the independent modeling has been realized using non-linear contact algorithm, and the curve graph of the contact stress between the head and double-cone sealing has been plotted. Also, the relevant contours of stress distribution have been obtained. Finally, the strength evaluations involving dangerous sections have been given as well.
