In recent years, with the increase of demand of large size steel, lots of rollingproduction lines of round steel are being built or reconstructed in our country. There is aserious energy consumption in the bar continuous rolling process. This paper focuses onthe study of the way of reducing the energy consumption of the rolling production line byoptimizing the pass elongation coefficient.Firstly, based on the previous research findings, this paper has carefully studied thedesign method of round steel pass. The choice of hot continuous rolling pass system ofround steel, the calculation method of section area of rolled piece, the limited conditons ofpiece in the process of rolling, and the selection of mathematical model of processparameters such as rolling force, rolling torque, the rolling temperature, rolling energyconsumption have been discussed in detial.Secondly, aiming at the premature convergence problem existing in the standardgenetic algorithm, this paper proposes a multi population genetic algorithm. At the sametime, pass parameters have been optimized by using two kinds of algorithms. Through thecomparison of optimization results of two algorithms, the improved effect of multipopulation genetic algorithm to the standard algorithm has been tested. With the help ofVisual C++6integrated development environment, computer aided roll pass designsystem of round steel has been developped by applying Microsoft foundation class library.This system has the following characteristics: pass parameters can been optimized bycalling the multi population genetic algorithm out of the MATLAB environment; The passparameters and rolling process parameters can be established through the communicationwith the Microsoft Access database; the automatically modeling of rolls can be realized byasynchronous call of Pro/E4.0.Again, using round steel pass as the research object, using the finite element softwareDEFORM, based on the rigid plastic finite element method, the three-dimensional finiteelement model of thermal mechanical coupling of the whole process of rolling has beenestablished. The whole process of rolling of45steel from blooming to finishing rollinghas been simulated. The velocity field of piece in the rolling process, the section shape and size of piece after rolling at each pass and the rolling force and rolling torque parametershave been analysised in detial. The accuracy of mathematical model of process parametersand the rationality of design method of pass have been verified effectivily. The changerules of rolling force of bar continuous rolling have been analyzed. The total energyconsumption of rolling production line has been caculated by adopting curve fitting andsymbolic integration.
