Abrasive water jet cutting is the widest applicability processing method, but theexpensive operation and maintenance costs limited the widely use of it somewhat. Theabrasive costs is a huge part of operation costs, however the consumed of abrasive isfewer in one cutting operation, most of abrasive is capable in use for cutting processingafter recycle. Abrasive deposited on the bottom of tank after cutting the work piece, sowe need to screen and dry it to satisfy the need of sub-mixed abrasive water-jet aftercollect it. For the abrasive suspension jet, we just need to screen it before reuse it.The abrasive is evenly deposited on the bottom of tank and not easy to be suck up.When the abrasive recycle system worked for some time the velocity of abrasive recycleslowed down for the suction port can’t get replenishment of abrasive timely. This paperpropose adopt submerged circular jet to scour the abrasive to make them move to thezone near the suction port so as to improve the velocity of recycle. We have investigated the erosion of abrasive by the submerged circular jet basedon theoretical analysis and experimental study. We deduced the erosion zone ofsubmerged circular jet by analyzed the motion of it, and the characteristics of theabrasive incipient motion by analyzed the force of abrasive under the action of water. This paper deals with a series of experiments designed to study the scouring actionof100mesh size garnet abrasive by circular jet. At first we get the velocity of abrasivestarting to move under the action of jet under shallow water. Similitude analysis methodwas used to analyze the erosion process, and we get the empirical formulae of themaximum erosion width, length and depth in scouring pit with velocity of the jet by fitthe results of experimental results with Origin. In the experiment of scouring abrasiveby circular jet deposited over the outlet, we get the empirical formulae of the criticalvelocity to scouring the deposited abrasive with the depth of jet buried, then analyzethe influence of maximum scouring length by circular jet in limited size of tank. At lastwe compared the erosion effect of single and multiple jet with the constant flow rate.In addition, the recycle system in ASJ was optimized design according to theexperiment result. We redesigned the tank to make it adapt to the new recycle system, which include the optimized of the location of the inlet and outlet of system and thebottom structure of the tank.
