The research objects of this paper are the typical slopes in different areas of Haerwusuopen pit mine. The main purpose is to study the stability of the open-pit mine slopes.Firstly, through engineeing geological exploration which is on the Haerwusu mining area. This paper find out the engineering geological conditinons and hydrogeological conditions inthe mine. It is base on the analysis of the mine geological data and the internal and externalwaste dump abandoned history and material types and the opencast mining plan to set up11simplified slopes engineering geological models.Than, the paper uses numerical simulation method to analyze the deformation and failuremechanism of slope and landslide model. The paper respectively takes the finite elementmethod and rapids lundgren numericalsimulation method of the program. The object of thenumerical simulation are four typical slopes in different working area in the mining area. Thepaper analyzes the reprocessing results of two kinds of process, concludes three points:①Theinternal waste dump the deformation is mainly next dumping outcast itself of consolidationunder the gravity compaction, the slope failure mode for the abandoned materials is internalcircular sliding;②The outside waste dump slope failure mode may be two situations: one isoutcast internal circular sliding, another one is compound sliding;③The pit slope sliding mayoccur in two places, one is the fourth department of local high and steep stairs, occurred withinthe quaternary soil lager. Its damage model is circular sliding, in south balcony area high step onloess slope. Another place is the destruction of the lower part of quaternary strata, the specificlocation for the near north side to help take high steps, it may be a along coal seam or coal floorfailure which is called "located slippage" sliding mode. Because of the development joint fissurein this area, the production process under the action of small caving are possible. At the end, the limit equilibrium method is adopted to do the analysis and evaluation ofthe slope stability of Haerwusu mine. The north slopes in stope are relatively stable. The loesssteps stability coefficient is1.015. Currently it is in stable state, but it should be strengthen thesecurity. The sections of south slopes overall stability coefficient are1.234,1.238,1.410and 1.256. Respectively, they all can meet the requirements of1.2, and their single stabilitycoefficient are all greater than1.0steps.
