This article use diethylenetriamine (DETA), polypropylene glycol diglycidylether (PPGDGE), epoxy resin E-20and phenyl glycidyl ether (PGE) as raw materialto synthesize a kind of nonionic waterborne epoxy curing agent. First polyamineadduct as DETA-PPGDGE-DETA can be obtained by reacting DETA with PPGDGE.Then a percentage of E-20and PGE were used to cap the primary amine in polyamineadduct. After adding some distilled water, a product with50%solids was obtained. This waterborne epoxy curing agent was characterized by the Infrared Spectrum(IR) and Time of Flight Mass Spectrograph (TOF-MS). The effect of differentreactive conditions on the structure and properties of epoxy curing agent wasinvestigated in this paper. It is indicated that the most excellent coating that mixedwith curing agent and epoxy emulsion was obtained when the molar ratio of DETAand PPGDGE was20:1,20%primary amine was capped with E-20and a smallamount of DETA was removed completely from reaction system. The curing agent prepared in the end had a good storage stability and solubilityin water. The varnish made by our curing agent and water-based epoxy resin hadsmooth film. It’s mechanical property and salt spray resistance improved substantiallyin comparison with products in domestic market.
