Study On Ecological Urban Planning Approaches Of Riverside Based On River Health

River ecosystems decline universally in the rapid urbanization. Meanwhile, theparticularity of riverside has a urgent need for ecologicalization of its urban planning.From another aspect, the development of water related subjects, especially the conceptof river health, provides a new perspective for the values, technique system andimplementation management of urban planning in riverside. Based on such backgrounds,this paper attempt to update the theory of river health from the perspective of urbanplanning, discuss the ecologicalization of strategies, and coalesce ecological urbanplanning system and method of riverside with the existing one, which provide clearguidance for human settlement construction in riverside.First of all, this paper gives concept definitions about river health, riverside andecological urban planning approach. Based on literature review on river healthevaluation, water ecological environment effect of land use in riverside, ecologicalurban planning and construction practice in riverside, this paper presents basic judgmentand deficiency.Secondly, this paper evaluates the status of urban planning and construction inriverside. Based on practical problems, this paper summarizes the current domesticecological dilemma of construction in riverside, and analyzes the causes from theperspective of urban planning, which on the basis of internal validity and externaladaptability problems after the analysis on the types of the urban planning in riverside.Then this paper clarifies ecological requirements of urban planning in riverside.Thirdly, this paper attempts to establish theory approach and system approach ofurban planning in riverside. Based on the analysis of the spatial structure, process andservice function of riverside from the perspective of ecology, this paper expands theconnotation of river health and value orientation of urban planning in riverside, andestablishes the river health assessment system. Then this paper proposes threemethodologies which are gradual adjustment, structural control and collaborativeplanning. Further, this paper integrates ecological urban planning technique system.Fourthly, this paper discusses design approach and implementation approach ofurban planning in riverside. It analyses the gradual planning objectives choice, discussesecological planning methods from the aspects of strategic and detail control. Then itgives suggestions for effective mechanism of urban planning in riverside including implementation feedback, administrative coordination and social collaboration.Fifth, this paper takes a case of Liuxi river in Guangzhou to make the ecologicalurban planning approach in riverside into practice which includes overall structure, landuse control and urban planning effectiveness.
