With the rapid development of information technology, memory devices are becoming fasterrespondence, higher-density data storage and lower cost. The traditional silicon-based memorymaterials could not meet the demand of the prospective market any more. Looking for alternativememory materials has been a research hotspot. Aromatic polyimides are being used in optical andelectrical information storage for their excellent mechanical properties, flexibility and easy filmability. Research on memory characteristics of polyimides with new molecular structures is currentlypopular in the field of aromatic polymers. In this paper, the development of polyimides as organic memory materials is summarized. Aseries of aromatic diamines was designed and synthesized. Diamines obtained were characterized byNMR, elementary analysis and FT-IR. Twelve novel organosoluble aromatic polyimides weresuccessfully synthesized by using of diamines obtained reacted with dianhydrides such as2,2’-diphenyl-4,4’,5,5’-biphenyltetracarboxylic dianhydride (DPBPDA),2,2’-bis[4’’-(3’’’,4’’’,5’’’-trifluorophenyl)phenyl]-4,4’,5,5’-biphenyltetracarboxylic dianhydride(BTFBPDA). The polyimides obtained were characterized by FT-IR and elementary analysis. Thesepolyimides were characterized by ultraviolet visible, fluorescence, thermal gravimetric analysis, different scanning calorimetry, cyclic voltammetry and so on. The HOMO and LUMO orbital energylevel were calculated from DET at the B3LYP level with the6-31G(d) basis set.
