Assembly is not only the end link of product manufacturing process, but also the mainway to realize product function, the quality of the assembly process directly affect the finalassembly quality of the product. At present, for the products with complex structure andhigh requirement of assembly accuracy, engineer need to design the product assemblyprocess by establishing physical prototypes, the cycle is long and it caused a lot of waste ofhuman, material and financial resources. Virtual assembly technology provides a fast,low-cost way to solve above problems.For the lack of interactive methods of the traditional virtual assembly system, thispaper developed a virtual assembly system based on the data glove to solve this problemand it is developed on the MFC platform with the software of EON Studio. This paper alsostudied the assembly sequence planning method, the method based on subassembly ispresented and the feasibility of the assembly sequences are verified through the virtualassembly system. The main work is illustrated in the following aspects:Geometry model and kinematic model of the virtual hand are established, and themovement mapping from the human hand to the virtual hand is set up. The phenomena ofskin fracture of the virtual hand is solved through adding balls in the fingers and addingskin mapping for the balls. This paper sums up the types of virtual hand operation andrealizes the interaction between the data glove and the virtual assembly system. Moreover,actions can be completed through simple gestures. The theory of collision detection isstudied, and hierarchical bounding box method is used in EON Studio to solve thecontradiction between the system efficiency and collision detection effect. Furthermore,smoothness of the system operation is ensured.Assembly model is built based on the directed constraint graph and the systematicframework of assembly sequence planning based on subassembly is given. Then theproblem of assembly sequence planning is translated into the problem of subassemblysequence planning. The identification method of subassemblies is designed according tostability and intrusiveness and the definition is given. In the end, the sequence planningfunction and algorithm flow chart are given, and the feasibility of the algorithm isillustrated by an example of the assembly of electric locomotive bearings box.The architecture and workflow of the virtual assembly system are given. Theprototype system is developed based on the data glove and position tracker, and combinedwith the software of EON Studio. In the end, various functions of the system are verified through an instance.
