Odor pollution of wastewater treatment plant has become one of the mainenvironmental problems to be solved in our country. Ammonia and hydrogen sulfide arethe most typical odor pollutants in wastewater treatment plant. As for the odor treatment,the traditional deodorization technology including physical method, chemical methodand biological method all have their limitations. Physical method is difficult to satisfythe discharge standard, while the major problems for chemical method and biologicalmethod are the operation cost and investment cost. Therefore, in the present study, thecombination technology of biological and chemical process were proposed based on thechemical spray deodorant method for the treatment of ammonia and hydrogen sulfidesatisfying high standard. With ammonia and hydrogen sulfide as the typical odorpollutants, the treatment efficiency of chemical spray deodorant method for both highand low concentrations of odor treatments were firstly studied. Then, the treatmentefficiency of chemical spray deodorant method for the mixed odor was verified. Thirdly,the optimal operation parameters of the bio-trickling filter for removing most of theodor were investigated. Finally, the whole performance of the combination technologyof biological-chemical process for the odor treatment was studied.The chemical spray method could remove the hydrogen sulfide and ammoniaefficiently. When the inlet concentration of hydrogen sulfide was10mg/m3, the outletconcentration could meet the primary standard within10s. When the inlet concentrationwas1~2mg/m3, the outlet concentration could meet the primary standard within1s. Asfor the treatment of ammonia, when the inlet concentration of ammonia was4mg/m3,the outlet concentration could meet the primary standard within10s.The bio-trickling filter could remove hydrogen sulfide efficiently, while theremoval efficiency of ammonia is comparatively ordinary. When the inlet hydrogensulfide and ammonia concentrations were10mg/m3and4~10mg/m3respectively, theoutlet ammonia concentration was1.65~6.04mg/m3and hydrogen sulfide was as low as0.59~0.68mg/m3.The combination technology of biological and chemical process could remove theodor of wastewater treatment plant efficiently. When the inlet hydrogen sulfide andammonia concentrations were10mg/m3and4mg/m3respectively, outlet hydrogensulfide and ammonia concentrations could meet the primary standard within4s. Thiscombination technology could largely save the investment cost of biological treatmentand reduce the operation cost of chemical treatment. Taking the treatment of10000m3/has an example, the investment cost and the operation cost were approximately128000 yuan and69000yuan per year, which could obviously reduce the investment costs by61%and operation costs by19%compared with traditional biological method.
