With the fast development of China’s automobile industry, automobile industry hasbecome one of the pillar industries in national economy. Textured cold rolled steel plateis widely used in automobile body manufacturing. It has excellent performance in platestamping and painting because of unique surface morphology. The surface of the steelplate is a decay copy process of textured rolls. So the quality of textured cold rolledsteel plate surface highly depends on the quality of the textured rolls. Electricaldischarge texturing (EDT) gained widespread attention as a kind of technique for rolltexturing. EDT for roll processing has the advantage of uniform surface roughness,omnidirectional electrical corrosion pits, good reproducibility. As the core part of EDTmachine, the properties of EDT pulse power supply limit the quality of the textured rollssurface topography. In this paper, the technology of electrical discharge texturing pulsepower supply is studied, designed the pulse power supply to meet the requirements ofroll texturing, and the process of roll texturing was also studied.In this paper, metal removal processing during the process of electrical dischargetexturing was analyzed, relationship between removal of the spark discharge in pitsformation with pulse discharge energy and the pulse parameters also were determined.The overall structure of the electrical discharge texturing pulse power supply wasdesigned, and the power supply was divided to the pulse generator module, the pulsesignal driving amplifier module, gap voltage detection module and a regulated DCpower supply module. Experimental results showed that the waveform of the pulsepower supply was quite good, and can meet the requirements of electrical dischargetexturing processing.Using the designed electrical discharge texturing pulse power supply, a series ofelectrical discharge texturing process experiments were designed. Firstly, single factorexperiments were carried out to judge how the factors of the operational parameters: thepulse width, the pulse interval, and the peak current respectively influenced the rollsurface parameters about average arithmetic roughness and peak count in peaks per cm.Based on the analysis of single factor experiments, response surface experiment usingquadratic general rotary unitized design was conducted to study the multiple pulsepower supply parameters’ influence on the roll surface morphology. The experimentresults showed the influence between pulse power parameters is not significant. Duringelectrical discharge texturing process, the parameters of textured roller can meet therequirements of textured cold rolled steel plate.
