Bamboo is an green materials with excellent property, it has high mechanical strength、natural soft and is easy to bend and have good property which can be split, after cut thin it has a good light transmission. It has a long history that bamboo was applied to the design and production of lamps. Especially since the accumulation of traditional bamboo culture, it carries deep cultural connotation. With the improvement of people’s living standard and aesthetic, in addition to satisfying basic functions of lighting, people also put forward higher request and expectation on forms and spiritual connotations.Therefore, this topic use bamboo as a carrier, based on the deep analysis of the unique material properties of bamboo, we have a research on the forms of bamboo lamps. Through the method of Literature review, Field research method, Image acquisition method and the method of combining theory and practice together, have a deep research on the material characteristics of bamboo, the forms of bamboo, form elements and the semantics of form, which would provide certain theoretical reference to the form design of bamboo lamps.First of all, based on the theory of form and form design, combined with the material properties of bamboo and actual case studies, have a detailed analysis on the form, form elements (including conceptual elements and visual elements) and its design expression, to have a theoretical foundation on further study the forms design of bamboo lamps. Secondly, based on the concept and connotation of the form semantic, from basic semantic (including shape semantics, color semantics, material semantics), function semantics, cultural semantics, market semantics an so on, to have a comprehensive analysis to the semantics of bamboo lamps, to improve the important role of form semantic in the form of lamps. And then comprehensively consider the consist of bamboo lamps, form semantic and the aesthetic requirements, to discuss the method of form design; Combined with the case, analyzes the repetition, gradient, contrast and other method of form construction, the aesthetic art of unification and change, symmetry and balance, rhythm and cadence, And apply them in the design of bamboo lamps, using the method of form semantic as the key point, through set situation, semantic translation, encoding, decoding and Semantic sublimation to have a deep analysis. At last, using the method of form semantic as the main design method, to design the form of bamboo lamps, and design "liu guang tong hua" and "zhong zhen zhu xin","zhu zou qing yun","xiang li ren jia" four kinds of lamps, through design practice, to verify the research content of this article. use the results of this research, can provide theoretical guidance for the design of the form of bamboo lamps, especially these bamboo lamps which designed by using the method of semantic design, can better adapt to people’s increasing spiritual pursuit and the demand of the cultural connotation, to create more abundant bamboo’s form, but also provide a reference for other product’s form design.
