This paper studying the effect of sulfonation conditions (dosage of NaOH, dosage of Na2SO3, maximum temperature and time at temperature) on papermaking performance of SCMP which was prepared by using Mulberry stalk as a raw material. And studying the effect of chemical component of Mulberry Stalk SCMP on papermaking performance, studying the reaction mechanism of Mulberry Stalk SCMP in Pretreatment process carried out by scanning electron microsopy(SEM), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction(XRD).1. Analyses of the conditions of preparation of Mulberry Stalk SCMP by using single factor methodology, the results show that the best Mulberry Stalk SCMP under conditions (15%dosage of Na2SO3,4%dosage of NaOH, maximum temperature130℃, time at temperature120min). Regression equation of the response values for many factors and the optimal conditions of brightness were obtained by response surface methodology. The optimal conditions is3%dosage of NaOH,18%dosage of Na2SO3and maximum temperature115℃. The paper was49.37%ISO of brightness.2. The brightness, tensile strength index and folding strength of Mulberry Stalk SCMP increase as sulphonic group in pulp were increased by the sulphite treatment. And both tear index and burst index increase as total acid groups in pulp were increased by the sulphite treatment. But thickness decrease as sulphonic group in pulp were increased by the sulphite treatment.3. Sulphonic group or total acid groups in Mulberry Stalk SCMP (independent variable) and physics papermaking performance (dependent variable) equations were establish. The results showed that the correlation coefficient is greater than0.9, they exist linear or nonlinear relationship.4. The analyses of reaction mechanism carried out by SEM, FT-IR and XPS. The results showed that with Sulfonated pretreatment process, extractives and lignin in Mulberry Stalk were dissolved, and these lignin deposited on fiber surface. At the same time, lignin was introduced sulphonic group by sulfonation reaction. The analyses of XRD results showed that sulfonation reaction almost no changed cellulose crystalline structure.
