PP/elastomer/CaCO3composites was widespread concerned due to its excellent features.CaCO3was fully effective in the matrix as it dispersed uniformly and formed a stableinterface layer with matrix. In this paper, modifying CaCO3by using coupling agent,modifying POE by grafting polar monomer, improve the affinity between PP, elastomer andCaCO3, and finally to prepare excellent performance ternary composites.The titanate coupling agent NDZ-105and DL-α-alanine used in CaCO3particles for thesurface modification, and studying the effect of various factors on the effect of modified.Results show that modified CaCO3by the titanate coupling agent NDZ-105or DL-α-alaninehas hydrophobic and disperse better than untreated CaCO3. Optimum reaction condition ofsurface modified CaCO3by titanate coupling agent NDZ-105is: the coupling agent dosage is1.5%of the mass of CaCO3, the quality of CaCO3and isopropyl alcohol is1:1, processingtemperature70℃, the processing time is90minutes; Optimum reaction condition of surfacemodified CaCO3by DL-α-alanine is: alanine dosage is6%, the processing time is120minutes, processing temperature is80℃, the quality of CaCO3and distilled water is1:1.With GMA and St as graft monomer, utilizing the melt grafting method, preparing thegrafted POE, the effects of dosage of GMA, DCP and St on the grafting ratio and melt flowrate is investigated. The best formula is, GMA:3%; DCP:0.2%; The grafted rate ofPOE-g-GMA is0.69%, the MFR is2.4g/10min. On this basis, to join the second monomer Stproceed more monomer melt grafting modification, when the molar quality of St and GMA is1:1, GMAgrafted rate of POE-g-(GMA-co-St) was1.69%, the MFR is2.0g/10min.PP/elastomer composites prepared by melt extrusion method, the mechanical propertiesand structure are studied. The results showed that the toughening effect of POE and POEgrafting material is: POE-g-(GMA-co-St)>POE-g-GMA>POE, and tensile and bendingstrength of PP/elastomer composite have the similar laws. When the content ofPOE-g-(GMA-co-St) was20%, the notched impact strength of composite is19.66kJ/m2, andit is3.2as large as the pure PP. Composite elastomer (POE/POE-g-(GMA-co-St)) tougheningPP is better than the single use of POE or POE grafting material. When thePP/POE-g-(GMA-co-St)/POE=100/12/8, the notched impact strength of the composite is22.62kJ/m2, and it is3.6times as large as the pure PP; Besides, its notched impact fracturesurface was rougher and hiberarchy-obvious; interface of two phases was more illegible, which predicted a typical toughness rupture.When the PP/POE-g-(GMA-co-St)/POE=100/12/8, adde modified CaCO3by titanatecoupling agent NDZ-105and alanine respectively, prepare PP/elastomer/CaCO3ternarycomposites, and study the mechanical properties and structure. The results showed that: withthe continuous increase of the amount of CaCO3, tensile and bending strength of compositewere increased, while the impact strength trend is first rises after then falls. Its notchedimpact fracture surface was rougher, more ups and downs point or surface, shows thecharacteristic of toughness rupture. And modified CaCO3by alanine has the better effect thanby titanate coupling agent NDZ-105. When modified CaCO3by alanine is15%, the tensile,impact and bending strength of composite is31.16MPa,23.19kJ/m2and51.3MPa.
