Thread milling is a kind of advanced processing technology and has a great advantage inmachining precision and machining efficiency. It is also a new technology to reduce tool costsand is an effective way to replace the traditional thread cutting and screw extrusion. With thedevelopment of numerical control processing technology, especially the widespread use oftriaxial linkage nc machining system, the development of high precision thread indexablemilling cutter is badly needed in order to meet market demand.According to the principle of screw thread milling, actual production status, cutting theoryanalysis, foreign thread cutter samples, and consulting the tooth shape parameters of the screwthread standard manual, the overall architecture of compact thread milling cutter, workingangle, blade shape, appearance of cutter bar, and blade clamping way etc. were designed.Three-dimensional design software Pro/E was used to establish the parametric model ofcompact thread milling cutter and determine its assembly model and engineering drawing.Based on the process requirements, one of the sample tools was manufactured.Using computer numerical analysis technology and special finite element simulationsoftware for machining-Advanteage, the finite element analysis model of cutting process wasestablished. The sample baled was imported to simulate the process of milling thread. Duringthe process of simulation, the single factor analysis method was used and feeding as well ascutting speed was chosen to be as the experimental variables. Combined with the theoreticalknowledge of cutting process, the trend diagram of cutting force and temperature were get.The influence of cutting parameters on the thread milling cutting performance was analyzed.Study of the variation trend of cutting force and temperature under different cutting conditioncan provide guidance for rational selection of cutting parameters.In order to verify the accuracy of FEM results, based on the existing experimentalequipment conditions, a simplified thread milling cutting experiment system was designed,and this system is consistent with the simulation experiment condition. The effect of cuttingspeed on cutting force was analyzed to recommend the optimal cutting speed. Finally, theexperimental results were compared with the simulation results. The comparative results showthat simulation results has a good consistency with the experiment results, and simulationexperiment is proved to be a feasibility method to replace part of cutting experiment study ofthread milling process.
