NC tube bending is an advanced way of bending and is widely used in various industrial sectors, such as vehicle, aerospace, petrochemical, military products, etc. Bending NC programming process is very complex. Bending CAD model geometry information is not fully utilized, which makes it difficult to integrated design and manufacture products. In this dissertation, automatic programming and process simulation of NC bending based on UG environmental are studied to achieve integration of tube bending mathematical design, automatic programming and process simulation.Basic theory of NC bending automatic programming and process simulation is deeply studied. On the basis of the establishment of bending space geometry description method, a mathematical expression for the transformation of CNC bending control point coordinates into processing coordinates is derived. A fast detection algorithm of collision and interference based on the three-dimensional surface intersectionis designed for the problem of NC bending interference detection. For NC bending dynamic simulation needs, a Bezier curve equation for describing the centerline of bending tube is established by inserting temporary control points with weighting factor into the centerline. The above work provides a theoretical basis and method support for automatic programming and process simulation of NC tube bending.For the problem of the need of manually calculatingand inputting geometric parameters during NC bending programming, automatically extraction of any bending three-dimensional CAD model geometric information is achieved using the OPEN API secondary development technology based on UG environment. Considering the rebound properties of metal tube bending, a compensation method of processing coordinate is designedfor bending radius, angle and length. And with the help of NC tube bending instructions, the automatic programming of NC tube bending is achieved.Using three-dimensional modeling and motion simulation capabilities of UG, the three-dimensional model of NC tube bending machine and the kinematic model of bending institutions are built. Using parametric design method, NC bending processparametric modeling and dynamic simulation based on UGenvironmentis achieved. On the basis of the above work, an automated programming and process simulation system of NC tube bending based on UG environment is developed. The integrated design and manufacture of three-dimensional tube bending is achieved.The engineering examples of the NC tube bending process in Zhuzhou Electric Locomotive Co., Ltd. verify the feasibility and high efficiency of the software system is. The system improves the production efficiency and manufacturing accuracy of bending tube processing. The completed research work has a significant effectto improve the bending process technology level and production efficiency.
