Under the different smoking condition and various model filters and filtermaterial, a research on the filtering efficiencies and retaining space distributionpatterns of Hoffmann smoke components was carried out in this paper. In this paper,phenolic compounds, Benzo [a] pyrene, and Nitrosamines compounds wasinvestigated. The results showed that:(1) The7phenolic compounds of mainstream smoke interacted with filtermaterials, resulting that acetate filter shows high retention selectivity to phenoliccompounds. The filters’ filtration efficiency of phenolic compounds varied from30%to90%, successively from high to low: regular acetate filter≈grooved acetate filter>filter paper/acetate dual filter> ventilation cavity acetate, while4single phenoliccompounds’ filtration efficiencies was obviously higher than3benzodiazepines.Different suction modes have different degree impacst on phenolic compounds,compared with ISO smoking condition, under Canada smoking condition,4singlephenolic compounds’ filtration efficiencies was increased, while3benzodiazepineswas decreased. Filter structure and filter material’s change have obvious influence onfiltration efficiencies and distribution patterns of phenolic compounds and differentphenolic compounds also have their own retention and distribution characteristics.(2) While using the same raw&assistant materials and all cigarette samples havesame parameters such as filter length and pressure drop, Benzo [a] pyrene filteringefficiencies of five model filters, i.e., regular acetate filter, outer grooved acetate filter,inner grooved acetate filter, ventilation cavity acetate and filter paper/acetate dualfilter, are39.51%,40.32%,39.74%,27.33%and42.33%respectively, among them,filter paper/acetate dual filter showed the best filtering efficiency to Bap. Andcompared with ISO smoking condition, under Canada smoking condition, Bap’sfiltration efficiency was lower. Furthermore, compared with phenolic compounds, thechange of filter structure has little impact on filtration efficiencies and distributionpatterns, including longitudinal, cross sectional radial of Bap.(3) Compared with ISO suction mode, under the mode of Canada suction, byquantitatively analyzing nitrosamines contents in mainstream smoke and filters,Regular acetate filter presented multiplied increasing, while, filtration efficiencyreduced to a certain degree. The filters’ filtration efficiency of nitrosamines varied from30%to60%, successively from high to low: grooved acetate filter≈paper/acetate dual filter> regular acetate filter> ventilation cavity acetate. Thechange of filter structure has a certain impact on nitrosamines’ distribution patterns,the outer part of grooved acetate filter, the intercepted nitrosamines’ concentrationwas higher than regular acetate filter.
