As an advanced surface finishing technology, magnetic abrasive finishing is paid more attention. Many scholars have conducted a lot of deep researches, which are from the study of grinding mechanism to the design of magnetic field generating device and from the preparation of abrasive effect to the evaluation of finishing effect. With their effort, a series of achievements have been made. As an important part of magnetic abrasive finishing, preparation of magnetic abrasive and evaluation of finishing performance is emphasized. Some magnetic abrasive has been produced, which are suitable to magnetic abrasive machining. At present, most magnetic abrasive is discarded, after processing, causing resources waste and environment pollution, which is one of the factors that restrict the further development of magnetic abrasive. It is one of the problems most needed to be solved that is how to recycle magnetic abrasive properly.Beginning with the preparation of magnetic abrasive, this paper analyzes the failure form of magnetic abrasive. And it is proposed that magnetic abrasive is recycled using different preparation and different process. Economy cost is also accounted. What have been done are as follows:(1)For the recovery of non-consolidation of diamond abrasive magnetic recovery, when n(Fe):n(CLO3):n(H+)=1:0.5:2.4, after two hours reaction, the dissolution rate of Abrasive is the most best. The method which is simple and low cost can be recovered diamonds effectively.(2) XRD analysis of Recycled diamond is done. It is found that the diamond has a high purity and constant hardness and strength.(3)Simple device is designed to measure new and old saturation induction density. It can be concluded that new saturation magnetic induction using the extracted diamonds is about0.6T, which meet the magnetic abrasive finishing requirements.(4)With the comparison of new and old magnetic abrasive finishing effect on the same workpiece under same condition, it is found that the surface roughness is nearly the same, which proves the reliability of the new magnetic abrasive made with extracted diamond.(5)The economy cost of recovering magnetic abrasive is analyed.lt is found that recovering diamond among magnetic abrasive is economic and has a potential market.(6)For the sintering abrasive, silicon carbide is mainly recycled. With n(Fe)\n(H)=\.2.3and two hours reaction, the dissolution rate of Abrasive is the most best. Chemical byproducts can be get after the added NaOH reacts to NaCl and Fe(OH)3. This method produces no waste and is environmentally and economy.(7) After the magnetic abrasive machining particle size analysis, particle size of magnetic abrasive is analyzed, this provides basis for optimizing the process of recovering magnetic abrasive. Because suitable temperature is beneficial for recovering magnetic abrasive, the relation between temperature and reaction during recovering magnetic abrasive is explored.According to conclusions above, we can make a conclusion that recovering magnetic abrasive is not only simple and resource-saving, but also benefits for the further development of magnetic abrasive finishing.
