With the development of the economy and adjustment of the policy for energy resource in China, pipeline transport as a powerful freight transport modalities has already become one of the five major transport means by its advantages. But the accidents of aged pipeline, the pipelines were exposed to the soil corrosion long period. Accident of corrosion happened now and again, which threatened the safety of people and wealth. There is a continuing public perception that pipelines need to be ever safer! The present paper originates from national "tenth-five-year plan" project, that is to research for buried gas pipeline in city and the key technique of the industrious special pressing equipment.Aiming at detecting the3PE coating defects of buried steel pipelines, this paper researched the mechanism and feature of buried Metal’s corrosion for3PE coating evaluation. Compared several of coating defects survey techniques available, and summarized the survey characteristic. Based on the experience of actual examination, this author presented a new method of coating defects survey. A more effective and precise method called AC current survey was presented. For the same purpose, an accurate electric model of pipeline-soil has been set up. Based on the model, the AC current transmission theory between pipeline and soil has been researched in this paper, and some operational calculations about the pipeline-soil system parameters such as R,C,L, a has been provide.In this paper, the summary of the classification assessment methodology of the safety quality for the3PE protective coating of the buried steel pipelines in home and aboard was also discussed. The class level and classification method as well as the assessment indicator were given. It also presented the parameters and the level value of the classification assessment for the3PE coating by using AC/DC Current Attenuation Survey.The contents of the dissertation about the inspection technology can be referenced, to a certain degree, for choose of buried steel pipelines inspection instrument. The application of the software can decrease the labor of technician in assessing inspection data and provide the convenient path for relative people to access the related information of pipeline.
