Abstract:Mineral resources is one of the important material basis for human survival and social development, While, mining produced a large number of tailing. Because of the limit in technology of mineral processing and tailing comprehensive utilization, most of tailings are stored in tailing dam. As a relatively high potential energy, tailings dam is a potential safe risk, Maintaining the stability of dam is the key to its safe operation, for it will be a disaster for people’s life and property safety, if tailings dams collapse. Recently, with the increase of mining strength, safety problems of tailings dams are highlighted, at the same time, it is practical significant to elevate and expand tailings dam safety and effectively for saving land.Basing on Wukengli tailings, using on-site research, collecting basic data and measuring soil characters, analyzing the statistical distribution of soil mechanical parameters A study of seepage and stability on both current and elevated tailing dam was carried out in this paper. the main work is as follows.(1) According to reliability theory with limit equilibrium method, The stability on Wukengli tailings dam in current situation was studied, the safety coefficient and failure probability was gotten as results, some necessary security measures were advised, and the stability of the tailings after treatment was tested.(2) Soil mechanics parameter sensitivity analysis on both current and elevated dam was carried out, The mechanical parameters influencing on safety coefficient most was obtained.(3) Tailings dam after elevation and expansion was analyzed by two and three dimensional seepage respectively, seepage characteristics in dam in normal operation and flood operation are illustrated by the total head, pore water pressure, hydraulic gradient, the seepage velocity, flow line and so on.(4) Adopting the saturation line in the seepage analysis, basing on limit equilibrium method and the strength reduction FEM, stability analysis for the tailings after elevation and expansion is carried out. Thus, the safety coefficient and the force deformation characteristics of the dam was obtained, and three dimensional stress field and displacement field in tailing dam was showed.
