Photonic crystals (PC) were widely used in photonic devices, sensors, optical communications and others, because of their excellent filter characteristics. In this paper, the filter characteristics of1-DPCs were studied by combination of simulation and experiment. Firstly, the transmission of electromagnetic wave in the1-DPCs structure theory was expounded. Then the1-DPCs structure was simulated by Mat-lab software based on transfer matrix method based on the structure simulation. Discussed how the different parameters influenced the1-DPCs filter characteristics, such as the number of cycles; refractive index ratio; electromagnetic wave incidence angles; basal material refractive index and the defect layer material’s optical thickness; types; positions. The simulation results could provide a direction for the preparation and devices designed of1-DPCs.Prepared the TiO2-SiO21-DPCs used Sol-Gel method based on simulation results. Firstly, discussed how to control the thickness and quality of a single layer film, got the relation between film thickness and the withdraw rate, determined the factors of drying speed; heating process for high quality thin film. Prepared the1-DPCs in UV (Rmax=90%, FWHM=140nm) and VIS (Rmax=94%, FWHM=194nm) wave band. The prepared structure was characterized by SEM, XRD and UV-VIS-IR. Proposed the ultraviolet wavelengths of the structure can be used for UVA protection, optical wavelengths can be used for solar battery back reflector. In addition, we also added large size of sol particles method to overcome the thin film cracking problem of bigger thickness, prepared the1-DPCs in near infrared spectrum (1600nm) with filtering characteristics.Tested the different parameters of prepared UV and VIS1-DPCs, used them to simulation calculated. The results of tested and simulation are consistent. In addition, how the incidence Angle and the cycle number of1-DPCs influenced its filter characteristics through the experiment and simulation, their results were also matched..Figure81; Table5; References79.
