The edge milling machine is the critical equipment with high precision in the weldedpipe production line, and the development and research of the edge milling machinetechnology attract more and more attention of the international and domestic manufacturefactories. In this paper, it is taken as the research object of the edge milling machine of thebig straight seam submerged arc welding pipe unit. Aiming at the question of the millingquality out-of-tolerance, the state and system precision of the clamp car of the edgemilling machine is analyzed. The main research contents are as follows.Firstly, the three-dimensional model of the clamp car is established based on Pro/Esoftware to comprehensive grasp the mechanical structure features of the clamp car of theedge milling machine of the UOE welding line. Then, the stress and deformation of theclamp car are analyzed based on the finite element software Abaqus. And on this basis, theweak link is clear in this device, what provides a theoretical basis for the furtherimprovement of the equipment.Secondly, the hydraulic system of the clamp car is analyzed briefly in this paper,which enable the hydraulic technical worker find out the cause of the problem and givesolution quickly and accurately, when the equipment works abnormal that is caused by thehydraulic system. As the same time, this analysis is helpful for further understand thehydraulic system of the equipment for the technicist.Thirdly, the main purpose of this research is to ascertain the out-of-tolerance cause ofthe milling quality of the steel plate. The inverse method is used to solve this problem,which is started with the state and test results of the end product. The inverse method is toestablish the simple relations between the geometric and positional according to the stateof the end product and the testing result. First of all, it is analyzed of the effect to themilling quality, when only the clamp car works abnormal. Secondly, it is analyzed of thecomprehensive of both the blunt edge milling unit and the clamp car. For each kind ofmovement, combined with the specific examples to illustrate, the changeful curve of theblunt edge height, which is relevant with the movement of the clamp car, is drawn.Through the analysis, the relationship is explicit between the movement and the change of the blunt edge height, which provides a theoretical reference for the technicist todetermine the cause of the problem quickly.Finally, the comprehensive analysis is made for the clamp car on the basis of theabove research. Through the comprehensive analysis, the out-of-tolerance causes of themilling quality of the steel plate, which are the most possible, are further determined. Forthese causes, some corresponding detection recommendation and improvement measuresare put forward, which provide the reference for the improvement of the equipment in thefuture.
