Gear slicing technology as a new gear machining technology, has gain greatattention in the industry. At present, although researches and experiments on machinetool design and cutting tool design expanded around this technology have achievedinitial results, but the phenomenon that cutting mechanism study lagging behindapplication study on the gear slicing has hindered the popularized application of gearslicing technology, therefore, the study on cutting mechanism of gear slicingtechnology is particularly urgent. In view of this, this paper studies cutting forcecalculation method of gear slicing for cylindrical gears in depth.According to the particularity that cutting edge change over time in the cuttingprocess of single tooth on the slice cutter, the cutting forces on the cutting-in edge, topedge and cutting-out edge could be calculated respectively. The concept ofmicro-section edge is proposed to get these cutting forces. On this basis, the cuttingforce mathematical model of micro-section edge is established with the use of thecutting force theory of oblique cutting. On the basis of analysis of the cutting forcemathematical model of micro-section edge, this paper gives the calculation methodsof six parameters in this mathematical model contains the shear angle, chip flow angle,equivalent rake angle, inclination angle, friction angle and cutting depth. According tothe vector calculation methods and the cutting force mathematical model of themicro-section edge, the cutting force of single tooth is calculated. On the basis ofanalysis of the case that numbers of teeth involved in cutting at the same time, thecalculation methods of cutting force is given. Then, the feasibility and correctness ofthe cutting force calculation method of gear slicing for cylindrical gears is verifiedthrough the calculating example.
