The present machining method of cylindrical gears has so many disadvantages, that it cannot well satisfy the requirements of the developments of aviation, space, automobiles, wind energy and other related fields. After studying the traditional method of gear machining both in China and abroad, an exploratory research on new technologies of gear slicing is made through analyzing the technological characteristics of the new gear machining.Firstly, gear slicing principle is presented and the structural modal of the gear slicing machine is built. From studying the forming of the face, the process of gear slicing and the velocity changes of the cutting edge, the forming process of the cuttings are made clear. According to this, the concept of virtual crown gear is presented. Afterwards, according to the motion needed by gear slicing, the mathematic modal is built. Moreover, according to the gear slicing principle and its motion, the structural modal of the gear slicing machine is built.Secondly, based on the gear slicing principle, the slice cutter is designed in this part. According to the face forming principle, the mathematic modal of the gear sliced cutter is made, meanwhile the flank and rake face and flank and rake angle are designed. Then, gear sliced cutter profile modification and parameter optimization method are presented.Thirdly, the main factors, such as cutter error and the assembly error between the main axis and the cutter, that affect machining precision are explicitly elaborated in this part. Then, the corrective measures, such as programming in absolute coordinate and reducing the transmission errors, are presented according to the factors mentioned above.Lastly, a machining experiment is done using the cutter we designed. The correctness and feasibility of the gear slicing principle and the cutter designed are proved through experiments.
