Revolutions in oil well drilling technology have been brought about with theadvancement of scientce and technology. Conventional drilling tools could not meet thechallenges of production in complex oil reservoirs. Meanwhile, numerous complex structuralwells have been arisen. To finish drilling of complex hole trajectories, especially to achievetruly closed-loop control, smart and all-way adjustable reciprocationg mechanisms should bedeveloped. This kind of operating mechanism could change the composit force on the drill bitor the eccentricity of drilling tool according to the instructions.Basic motions of reciprocationg mechanisms includes axial motion, radial motion andcircumferential motion, which could be achieved with the use of extension bar, sole orcombined. Based on that, this thesis will focus on the design of downhole hydraulicreciprocationg mechanism, and figure out how it works.Based on the design requirements and the existing reciprocating mechanisms have alsotaken into consideration, hydraulic principle of the reciprocating mechanism is chosen with aimprovement according to the downhole conditions, which was followed by calculationstructural parameters.Hydraulic principle, flow-pressure characteristics of valves, and differential equations ofmotion for every component will be achieved. Then, the performances of the reciprocatingmechanism will be analyzed in multifold cases using simulation software, AMESim.Preliminarily design the experimental prototype, and explain briefly the experiment lawsand components. At last, several application instantiations of downhole hydraulicreciprocationg mechanism are enumerated, whose principles are also explained. Now, itbecomes a possibility to design a complete set of controlling mechanism.
